Each Cause of Low Back Pain Has a Unique Presentation
Your chiropractor will spend time to ask questions and perform an examination to pin-pint the cause of your back pain. In all likelihood, there may be more than one cause at any one time. Obviously, your chiropractor will find all of them and then formulate a plan to correct or fix the causes.
Misalignments can be acute sudden onset or be chronic and hanging around a while. The sensation is usually an ache that becomes sharp when you bend the wrong way. Also some people report feeling like they have a bruise over the spine, but there isn’t one and they don’t recall any trauma.
Muscles spasms are pretty obvious. Your back gets very stiff and you may feel like your muscles are cramping. When you move, the muscles grab back at you painfully.
Strains or overuse are usually achy back pain within a day or so of doing physical activities you are unaccustomed to or perform for too long.
Arthritis is joint degeneration and swelling due to past injuries or overuse. Arthritis is usually an ache but can be sharp. A hallmark symptom is first thing in the morning stiffness, then after a hot shower or some moving around the pain and stiffness wears off.
Disc problems are caused when the spacer between your spinal bones becomes injured. A crack in the disc and swelling can cause a deep ache right over the area. If the disc sticks out far enough it can put pressure on a nerve and cause pain, tingling or numbness to run down your leg.
Nerve irritation is what it sounds like. Something has caused the nerve to become inflamed or irritated. This can happen from a disc problem or from an injury to your back causing over stretching and the nerve gets pulled too hard. The pain is sharp and electric and can travel down your leg. It can also be made worse when coughing or sneezing or stretching a leg out.
